1902

Business courses were offered during the period of Sanjiang Normal School.

1917

A Commercial Specialized Section was established at Nanjing Higher Normal School (1915-1923).Both National Central University and University of Nanking, the predecessors of Nanjing University, had Departments of Economics.

July 1952

Nanjing University merged with University of Nanking. In the subsequent departmental adjustment, the Department of Economics was transferred to Fudan University.

1978

Nanjing University reinstated the Department of Economics.

1986

The Department of Management was established.

May 1988

Nanjing University International Business School was founded, with 4 departments (Department of Economics, Department of Business Administration, Department of International Trade, Department of Economic Decision-Making) and 2 research institutions (Population Research Institute, Economic Technology Laboratory).

January 1989

The Department of International Trade was renamed Department of International Economics and Trade, and the Department of Business Administration was renamed Department of International Business Administration.

May 1993

The Department of International Accounting and Department of International Finance were established.

September 1997

The Department of International Accounting was renamed Department of Accounting, the Department of International Finance was renamed Department of Finance, and the Department of International Business Administration was renamed Department of Business Administration.

April 2000

International Business School was renamed Business School, with 5 departments (Department of Economics, Department of Business Administration, Department of International Economics and Trade, Department of Accounting, Department of Finance) and the Population Research Institute, etc.

July 2001

The Department of Electronic Commerce was established.

March 2003

The Department of Marketing was established.

September 2006

The School was restructured into School of Economics and School of Management. The School of Economics included the Department of Economics, Department of International Economics and Trade, Department of Finance, and Population Research Institute; the School of Management included the Department of Business Administration, Department of Accounting, Department of Electronic Commerce, and Department of Marketing.

March 2007

The Department of Industrial Economics and Department of Human Resource Management were officially established, and the Department of Finance was renamed Department of Finance and Insurance.

July 2013

The Department of Electronic Commerce and Department of Marketing merged into the Department of Marketing and Electronic Commerce.
