Nanjing University Business School (NJUBS)traces its roots back to the Business Division of Sanjiang Normal School founded in 1902. During the nationwide restructuring of universities and colleges in 1952, the economics and management disciplines of Nanjing University were transferred to other institutions. The Department of Economics was re-established at Nanjing University in 1978, followed by the founding of the Department of Management in 1986. In 1988, the International Business School of Nanjing University was established, which was renamed Nanjing University Business School in 2000.
Since its establishment in 1988, the School has progressively developed a structure with multiple disciplines coordinating and advancing together. Currently, it comprises the School of Economics and the School of Management. The School of Economics includes four departments: Economics, International Economics and Trade, Finance and Insurance, and Industrial Economics, along with the Population Research Institute. The School of Management consists of four departments as well: Business Administration, Accounting, Marketing and E-commerce, and Human Resource Management.
The School offers 11 undergraduate majors, 17 master's degree programs (including MBA, EMBA, MPAcc, International Business, Finance, and Auditing), 3 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 12 second-level discipline doctoral programs, 3 post-doctoral research stations, 2 national key disciplines, 1 Double First-Class construction discipline, and 1 national key cultivation discipline.
NJUBS also features 9 national first-class undergraduate program, 5 national first-class courses, 1 national training base for basic-discipline talents, 1 Plan 2.0 Base for Top-Notch Students in Basic Disciplines under the Ministry of Education, 1 national team for compiling Chinese economics textbooks, and 1 national teaching team.
In terms of research platforms, the School hosts 1 key research base of humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education, 1 national collaborative innovation center, 1 national high-end think tank cultivation unit, 1 first national virtual teaching and research section pilot, and 1 Changjiang Scholar Innovation Team. In addition, the School has 3 superior disciplines in Jiangsu universities, 1 first Jiangsu provincial collaborative innovation center, 2 ministry-province joint bases, 1 provincial key cultivation think tank, 3 provincial key research bases, and 21 university-level research institutes in humanities and social sciences.
In the Fifth Round of National Discipline Assessment by the Ministry of Education, all disciplines of the School made remarkable progress, with Business Administration achieving outstanding results and Theoretical Economics attaining excellent results.
NJUBS boasts a highly competent, influential and vigorous faculty of 158 members, including 72 professors, 47 associate professors, and 39 other teaching and research staff. Its distinguished faculty includes young experts with outstanding national contributions, distinguished professors, Changjiang Scholars, national distinguished teachers, experts with special government allowances, and various national-level talents.
The School has achieved remarkable success in talent cultivation. It has been awarded 2 first prizes and 6 second prizes at the national level, as well as 1 grand prize and 4 first prizes in Jiangsu Province for teaching achievements. Four doctoral dissertations were honored as National Excellent Doctoral Dissertations and two were nominated, while 22 cases were selected into the national “100 Excellent Management Cases”.
NJUBS engages in extensive collaborations with institutions such as the Maastricht School of Management (Netherlands), Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Missouri (USA), and the University of Göttingen (Germany) to jointly cultivate outstanding international management talents. It earned AACSB accreditation in 2013 and successfully completed its third five-year AACSB re-accreditation in 2024. Its MBA and EMBA programs also obtained CAMEA accreditation in 2016.
